The are a lot of nice things to find in the surroundings of Bocairent. On this page you will find a short summary of sites to visit. Whe also have a extensive information folder with information about other towns and sites to visit.
Sierra Mariola

The Serra de Mariola mountain range, located between the counties of L’Alcoià, El Comtat and La Vall d’Albaida, is one of the parts of Valencia where particularly significant environmental, landscape and socio-cultural values all overlap. Made up mostly of lime materials, the intense tectonic activity has generated a massif with a great variety of topography, which reaches its greatest assertiveness at the north-western end, a sector where the greatest heights are also found, towered over by the 1,389 metres of the emblematic Montcabrer. The important aquifers of Mariola, recognised as long ago as by botanist Cavanilles, give rise to countless springs and water emergences which are scattered about the whole surface of the mountain range.
Montcabrer

Montcabrer is with its height of 1390 meters, the highest point of the province of Valencia. Once you reached the top you can see the city of Valecia on the horizon. Also a lot of the coastline, inland and the Sierra Mariola are well visible.
From camping Bocairent it will take a well trained walker up to 4,5 hours to walk to the top. You will start at 620 meters going up to 1390 meters. You can also drive up to the Sierra Mariola or the viewpoint in Agres. From there it will take only 1 to 1,5 hours to walk up.
The Moorish Caves

These are a group of cave-windows, or man-made caves with holes in the shape of windows, which were carved into the side of a rock escarpment. Situated on the right hand side of Fos Ravine they are only 300 metres from the town’s old quarter. This is the most complex and numerous of all the cave-window groups found at the head of the Clariano River.
There are others located in gullies and ravines between Bocairent, Ontinyent and Alfafara. However, the Moorish Caves are the most famous and the ones most written about.
Ice Caves

Before the arrival of fridge-freezer technology, nature’s cold was harnessed through the development of the commerce in snow and ice, a business that reached its peak during the XVII and XIX centuries. Collecting snow, conserving it, transporting it, selling it and consuming it all formed part of a cycle of an activity now lost in time, involving labourers, mule drivers and merchants. Testimony to this once flourishing business are the remains of the enormous deposits used to store snow – called ice wells, ice caves, or ice cellars. Within the municipal boundaries of Bocairent there are several examples of these characteristic buildings.
Pou Clar

The Pou Clar, is the most important river area that the city has and is of great value, as much for the landscape, as for the wildlife it supports. The Clariano has its source here and the first section of its course is marked by a series of pools and waterfalls, which have all been sculpted by the water and go to make up an attractive area, much used by the local people. Over the generations, each pool has acquired a name; The Pool of Slaves, The Clear Pool, The Frozen Pool, The Side Pool, The Dark Pool and finally The Pool of Horses. There is easy access to the Pozo Claro and the visitor can walk along the whole section, as they enjoy the contrasts of colour in the rock formations and water and maybe take a refreshing summer swim in the pools.
Ravine of Ontinyent
Follow the river passing the moorish caves downstream towards Ontinyent through the ravine of Ontinyent. The endpoint is Pou Clar. The route mainly goes downhill and it is easy to walk for almost everybody. On the route you will find old ruins of the old textile factories of Bocairent. You will find Fairytale kind of places and after every corner you can discover something new on this diverse trip.
