Campsite Bocairent is within walking distance of the medieval Bocairent, as you can see from the campsite. This provides a beautiful view, especially in the night when it gets dark and all the lights go on. Then the old village seems an incandescent lightbulb in the garden with the old monastery flowting in the air above.
Bocairent is a unique town, situated on a small hill top. Due to its geographical location, the new part of the town is build as a tail ond the right side of the town. This leaves the old medieval village still completely visible and preserved.
The prime location of Bocairent the village always been a magnet for many different cultures. Remains of Neolithic settlements have been found in the “Vinalopó” and “Sarsa” caves. There are several Iberian hamlets scattered across the hilltops. The Romans also left their imprint with some villas in the area. The Islamic period is the longest and most prosperous period of Bocairent.
A visit to the medieval village, which is declared as a historic artistic heritage, is highly recommended. De strange lay-out of old streets and little squares is typical Arabic style with clibs and descents. A walk will show you the hidden beauties of this town which is untouched by tourism and still in original style.
You can find three chapels in the medieval quarter, Sant Joan, Mare de Deu dels Desamparats and Mare de Deu d’Agost. You can also visit the Moorish caves, the ice cellars, the bullfighting arena made out of solid rock, the monastery and more.
